I'm Rebecca Kee (linkedin here), an SF native with a passion for this city and all that it stands for! I was a teacher in the SFUSD at Paul Revere Elementary for five years, during which I got to fulfill some political dreams by leading a classroom visit for President Obama's Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. I'm an incurable political optimist even amidst tough times, and have pivoted from education into politics to see if it lives up to my West Wing (the tv show) dreams! Turns out it's way more complicated than that in our city, and I just took a crash course on local governance where I learned a lot that I'd love to share. I'm currently working on the Scott Wiener for Congress campaign but this civics crash course for SF youth will not have any specific political bent, it's all about learning how the levers of power work and how our city runs. If you're a teen (or if you have a teen) who is at all civic-curious, this should be a very engaging and low-commitment way to learn more and also envision next steps!
